No, there are homosexual priests and clergy even. There is a spectrum of attitudes in religions about homosexuality, although the center of the Bell curve does swing to disapproval. In most flavors of Buddhism, homosexuality is not banned. The Buddhist proscription is to avoid "abusing sex" -- using it to dominate or hurt, promiscuous behavior, sexual addictions, etc. This is consistent with the general principle that "waking up" includes freeing oneself from excessive cravings which cloud judgment, interfere with the ability to appreciate life, and impede spiritual progress. This principle applies regardless of sexual orientation.

Not at all. Sexual orientation in no way determines whether one believes in gods or not, and vice versa. There are homosexuals even in religions where homosexuality is strictly banned, though many decide to stay in the closet and may have conflicting beliefs. However, there are many religions out there that do not ban homosexuality. Some tolerate homosexuality while banning homosexual acts, others frown on homosexual acts but not severely (considering us all to have our faults), and in some religions homosexuality is not seen as an issue at all - or even as a positive thing (see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Homosexuality#Religion). ------------------------- To Keaner: The questioner did not ask if the Christian god does or does not approve of homosexuality - hence the reason why it was not in my answer. The point of the question had nothing to do with Christianity and its god specifically. Christianity is one of many other relgions - and since the question addresses theism as whole, it would be wrong to answer by only repeating the beliefs of some Christian denominations, which the questioner probably already knows. My answer is not meant to either condone or reject homosexuality, only to explain that homosexuality is accepted in many religions (which the questioner does not seem to be aware of) and, more to the point, explain that beliefs about homosexuality and one's own sexual orientation are often at odds, and therefore one does not have to be atheist to be homosexual.

In addition to the previous answers, which are all correct, some homosexuals have great problems caused by their religion. Because the religion they truly believe condemns homosexuality, they believe that they are sinful in even being, let alone acting as, homosexuals. This leads to excruciating personal suffering. All sorts of ills can arise from that. Unsuccessful attempts to "cure" themselves, unhappy marriages win which they try ti "do the right thing", suicide...

Certainly not! Here are some pictures of gay religious people on marches, showing that they are proud!

Certainly not, the religious homosexuals I have met are strong in their faith as is anyother religion. They believe in an all loving, forgiving and merciful God who finds beauty and majesty in all his creations. The latter fundamentalists like the Christian coalition, believe in an angry, jealous, and vengeful god that despises them for their version of immoral hypocricy. If the coalition evangilists had their way, being a practicing homosexual would be a literal death sentence with no hope of repreive unless you were given a chance to admit your sin and agree to be reprogrammed into their ideal of a moral society. They would more than likely try to rehabilitate you and send you to some kind of moral education concentration camp similar to the concentration camps of the holocaust. No, not all homosexuals are atheists, nor are all atheists homosexuals. To poorly paraphrase Groucho "I have no desire to join a club which would not accept people like me as a member." I'm Buddhist; "live and let live" is a far better philosophy than "GO TO HELL, FAGGOT!!"

No. Created in the image of the one God and equally endowed with rational souls, all men have the same nature and the same origin. Redeemed by the sacrifice of Christ, all are called to participate in the same divine beatitude: all therefore enjoy an equal dignity. The Catholic Church believes there is nothing sinful about being homosexual. But homosexuals like all unmarried people are called to celibacy. The Church specifically says that homosexuals "must be accepted with respect, compassion, and sensitivity. Every sign of unjust discrimination in their regard should be avoided." Here is the text of the document, On the Pastoral Care of Homosexual Persons (1986): http://www.newadvent.org/library/docs_df86ho.htm For more information, see the Catechism of the Catholic Church, section 2357-2359: http://www.usccb.org/catechism/text/pt3sect2chpt2art6.htm#2357 Furthermore most religions ban all sexual activity outside of marriage. Yet most people who practice sexual activity outside of marriage are not Atheists. Most religions ban all sinful activity. Yet most people sin and most of them are not Atheists. With love in Christ.

No, just because religions are stupid & bias doesn't mean it's reciprocated. And anyway, religions were created by people, not God. God accepts everyone, even if religions don't.

No.

No, of course not. Not all heterosexuals are religious, either. I grew up going to church and Sunday school, and all of my LBGT friends grew up in religious households as well. In our big city, many churches welcome us with open arms. God created and loves us all.

not this one!

No, in fact many hmosexuals are very devout to their faith.
