  • wrap yourself in aluminum foil and then swat the nest with a broom.
  • They sell wasp and hornet spray that will spray like 20 feet away. Get some of that. They sell it in grocery stores and at hardware stores. I always keep it on hand, and it works very well, killing wasps and hornets instantly upon contact. Spray the nest from a distance and soak it as good as you can. the fumes will penetrate the hive and kill any hornets that are still inside. Within an hour or so, you'll see there's no more activity. You can knock the nest down with a pole at that point, and spray it some more, just to be safe. Once the nest is down and you see no activity at all, you should be able to dispose of it pretty safely. I took care of a huge nest that was about 12" across a couple of years ago that way. Most nests around my house I get to before they're around 2" or so. Small nests are easy to spray and dispose of using wasp and hornet spray as the nest is soaked very easily and you'll see there's no activity within minutes. Larger nests you have to allow some time for the fumes to penetrate.
