  • It is more than likely the alternator. If you can get it to start with jumper cables, even with a bad battery the alternator would produce enough juice to keep the vehicle running until you turned it off. If the battery light is on while it is running, it is a tell tale sign the alternator is bad or not charging the battery for some reason (possibly a fuse, but I doubt it). There is a "battery main" fuse in the fuse box under the hood. It is a 30amp fuse. Make sure you check that one before replacing anything, just in case.
  • If you keep the jumper leads attached does the car continue to run until you take them off and is the battery light on while it's running? If so, you most likely have a bad alternator. You can have your battery and alternator tested for free at places like Autozone to make sure before you put money into the new part.
