I might consider it, if my kids wanted one. But, I prefer the cuddly kind of pets :)

We had one many years ago when we were kids..my sis and I. It had a painted shell..don't remember where we got it. But in time it died..probably from lethal paint! :(

No. I had a few as a kid, turtles and one tortoise. Not enough interaction for me. And I like things with fur or hair a lot more.

I had a red-eared sliders and a painted turlte a long time ago. They make awful pets, very messy and they grow too big. If I had the yard space, I would consider getting a pair of Africa spur-thighed tortoise, but then again I am kind of opposed to keeping wild animals in captivity.

I own 3 African Spurred Tortosies... they are getting huge. We had them from the time they were babies (found in a friends back yard...after the prior renter moved out and didn't know his two had nested) ... anyways, they started out about the size of a quarter and now are about 3 years old and the size of footballs so to speak. We live in the desert so during the summer they stay outside and have a house built underground to stay cool... during the winter months they come inside to a huge tank with a heat lamp and enough artificial sun for them. We do have to have a tortosie will because they live to be around 120 years old. They are amazingly great to have in my life...but I do not suggest them for everyone.
