  • Good question. I don't know. And what about on the sidewalk? Mimi?! Where are you?
  • I walk in through the entrance. Right or left.
  • Yes. We have to walk on the left as well as it is a minor offence not to. We are also taught to dress to the left.
  • Have you ever seen a bull in a china shop. :)
  • Well, in Australia we drive on the left side of the road, on a foot path you stay to the left and in supermarkets and the like you get bowled over by oncoming trolleys and the like if you dont stay to the left.. :) You crazy people driving on the right side of the road, no thats just weird.. hehe
  • I wish everyone did walk to the left! Its horrid walking in London sometimes becuase you cant walk a yard without stopping 10 times! people just stop and stand anywhere and then your late to work! lol
  • I think in stores we just tend to wander around. On the pavement it is polite to let a woman/child pass on the side furthest from the road. But at school, we had to walk on the left as we went down the corridors yes. It feels natural to walk on the left.
  • Yes, they walk to the left some what. Us yanks have the desire to walk to the right. Guess it goes back to the upbringing, I have been to Egland and Scotland, took me a while to adjust to the left and when I came back to the States I had to readjust to the right. I actually made a left turn and passed a car on the left after I got back. No accident , but it scared the **** out of me.
  • No they don't... but if you try standing on the left hand side of the escalator (like the tourists) you won't make yourself popular! You *always* stand on the right, walk on the left!
  • We are taught to do everything to the left, it is basic etiquette.
  • When I was at school in England there were large signs in the corridors and on the stairs saying "KEEP TO THE LEFT" so I supposed we are brainwashed from birth.Dont know about now though I think it is do as you please.
  • yes we do every thing on the left any thing else is just not cricket
  • While there is a tendency to walk on the left, the British are renowned for not walking on one side or the other if there are no formal instructions. The Japanese, who also drive on the left, walk on the left. The British walk all over.
  • When you were on horseback during England's medieval period, riding on the left side of the road allowed your right hand--the one where you carried your sword or lance--to be in a natural position to attack any oncoming enemy. The practice became so habitual that English people applied it to riding in other vehicles as well, even when such a practice seems anachronistic from (say) the American point of view.
  • Not oficially, no. In school we always had to walk on the left, but I think that was more about us not all falling down stairs. In shops, and in shopping centres/ supermarkets people pretty much walk (and stop) wherever they like. Oh, on the tube escalators there is a rule about stand to the left so people in a hurry can go past on the right (or the other way round, I don't live in London)
