MRSHINYSHOES

Question

Help answer this question below.

Do you notice how sometimes your old questions sometimes "reappear" and suddenly get answered by a cluster of people at the same time, when you haven't seen anyone answer them since you first posted them long ago? Odd, huh?

    Asker's Pick

Selected by the asker, MRSHINYSHOES. (What's this?)

That usually happens when somebody adds a friend who has been a member for quite some time. My niece did this recently, she added an older member as a friend and revived about half a dozen of his questions by going into his profile. As a result, these older questions were brought back out into the open, thus giving other users a chance to answer them. If the question was posted a long time ago, it could be that the people who answer them when they are recycled weren't here when the questions were first posted. My niece only joined here six months ago, but her "new" friend joined here about three years ago. She found him by chance while she was rummaging through old questions in her favourite category. So it is not really all that odd, it just happens from time to time.

    Summer re-runs?
I know exactly what you mean, could it be a writer's strike?

No, it isnt odd, a bunch of us are digging through old questions, that havent been answered or are great questions with only a few answers. This is another example.

Somebody digs up one of your old questions & answers it. After that, it gets moved to the top of the stack so many other people notice it & answer as well.

That's something I enjoy doing on AB. Occasionally when someone answers my questions I will click on them and go to their old questions and answer a few just to see them get pulled back out. Also if I start to ask a question that is already out there, I will take time to answer it so that it reappears.

I have always found that odd. I get answers to questions I forgot I answered.

There's nothing odd about it. That's the way it's supposed to work. When someone has a question, they type it into search for answers, and all the old questions show up.

Many old questions show up on the right side of the page, as "similar" questions that are very interesting. I often answer them.

  • If you look to the right side of the page, you will see "Similar Questions".
When someone answers one of them,
it will appear on the front page where others will also find it.
That's why you get a cluster of people answering it.
(I'm one of those who answer "Similar Questions.)
    :D
