If it didn't break the bone you could

The issue is the femoral artery in your thigh. If that is hit you will bleed out in a minute or 2 as far as I can remember. It's fast.....and you're dead.

First, there have been numerous cases of people shot in the thigh and dying. (as mentioned by Big Daddy (no relation) above at http://www.answerbag.com/a_view/3572737 . Second, if the bone or ligaments were hit, it might be extremely difficult. Third, you now have put a major hole in some pretty thick and powerful muscles that are going to be in trauma. If you think a charlie horse is bad, think of that. (Try this... Drive your fist, knuckle first, into your thigh muscle as hard as you can, then immediately get up and try to walk. A bullet will do a LOT more damage. Think of the bullet entering from various angles, in various spots. If you think it won't hurt, try simply pressing your thumb into that spot.) Lastly, "walk" may be a relative term, here. They MIGHT be able to limp, heavily.

And why do you want to know?

There were cases during the second world war when people were running without both feet below shanks. That happened in state of deep shock produced by an explosion and wound.
