  • it IS the anti-american hippies who have kept the usa somewhat "great" u think if we all sat on our asses like a buncha lazy fucks, anyone would give a shit about our rights? Its a dog eat dog world, im greatful for the hippies. Voice your opinion, bitch, whine... its the only WAY you and future generations will have "freedom".
  • that downrating was unnecessary :(
  • wow my god that was a pile of shit. -
  • well they might not have a choice if they are poor... i think it is pretty stupid of them to think that everything we do is wrong... i disagree with probably 20% of what i see... if a protester just protests to protest and with no good reason... they need to lead an anti-protesting rally :)
  • I probably like that even LESS than you do, but freedom of speech is an absolute freedom and should be restricted only under the most egregious circumstances, and even then only with great caution.
  • It's part of what makes this country so great. The FREEDOM to choose - ignore the stupid ones - but be oh so glad they have that right!
  • No, I'm fed up with jingoistic 'rah-rah' proponents of American exceptionalism who think it's somehow "Anti-American" to point it out when our government is violating our civil rights and killing people for no good reason. . . http://www.michaelmoore.com/words/latestnews/index.php?id=144 . .
  • Back in the 1960s, my father (a career Air Force officer) told me when I asked his opinion of all the protesting going on - "What do you think I have been doing the last 31 years? I have been protecting their right to do exactly what they are doing." And BTW - he was a hardcore Republican. So no, when I see protestors, I find comfort. You don't have to agree with the protesters to be proud of the fact we live in a country that still values some of the basic freedoms our founders came up with.
  • Living in a country, does not mean you're not allowed to question anything about it. I think it's so bloody stupid when people are like 'If you don't like it, move'. Why move out of their country, when they can try to make it a better place. Protesting about things America does, does not make an American, anti-American. And I think it's wonderful people don't just blindly follow the government, because I think it's pretty clear that will never turn out well. And I personally love hippies. If I could live in a field with flowers in my hair I would.
  • They irritate me when I disagree with what they're saying. But criticizing the country isn't unpatriotic -- saying that the country is doing one thing when you think it should be doing another is democracy, as is defending the country's actions when you think they're right. One of the best quotes I've ever seen was from G.K. Chesterfield, a loathesome person in a lot of respects, but this one he got right. He said that saying "My country, right or wrong" was meaningless. He compared it to saying, "My mother, drunk or sober." She's still your mother and you love her regardless, but you might want to send her to rehab and you sure want to be careful about giving her your car keys.
  • I'm not. I'm glad to live in a country I can love and criticize at the same time. True patriotism isn't thinking your country is always right. It is seeing what is right, trying to fix what is wrong, but loving your country all the time.
  • if you don't like it,gtfo!!!!! and stop complaining!!!!!lets see how you like it in other countries
  • Ya' know ... if we did not have the right to PROTEST ; then where would we be ? We'd STILL be under the british rule , that's where . AS longs as we do not infringe upon someone elses rights and liberties ; we should protest all we want to ensure change and democracy lives on .
  • Is it safe to say that you have no problem with were the current leadership is taking our country? That is, You do not protest?
  • Someone just told me this past week that she had heard of protestors at funerals of war veterans. I think that is just awful. Do they have no empathy, sympathy, sorrow, or respect for the family and friends of the deceased? The soldier was over there fighting for the right for them to be able to protest. It makes me sick to my stomach
  • ill second that. im tired of it!!!
  • I've been wodering the same thing for years. Everything they complain about America not being is exactly what they could find all over Europe. So why they don't just go there and leave us God and gun clinging freedom lovers alone is beyond me.
  • First of all, what I am fed up with is people that imply it is "anti-American" to criticize your own government when they do things you don't agree with. That's not "unpatriotic" (another word they like to throw around), that's holding your own country to the highest standards and wanting nothing but the best for it. That is about as patriotic as it gets. Just accepting whatever the hell happens is idiotic. That's why we live in a democracy; so that we can voice our opinions with votes to try to change the things we don't like and improve this country. Remember that this is supposed to be a governement of the people, by the people, for the people. If someone wants to live somewhere that the government runs everything without being questioned, then maybe it's them that needs to leave. Secondly....."Hippies"?? really?? are we still in the '60s? Are you really calling people hippies? If hippie is how you refer to anyone who stands for free thinking and doesn't just swallow whatever bullsh*t the government force feeds them, then I guess I am a hippie.
  • I didn't know Rush Limbaugh was amongst the hippies. News to me! I submit that anyone who says they hope the President fails because he's of a different political persuasion is much more unpatriotic than those who fight to protect civil liberties and better the nation in which they live.
  • Protesting our government is a pretty serious right. It's not anti-American to care about the decisions that are being made and fight against them if they feel strongly. I believe apathy is worse than protesting. Protesters *care* about what's going on, they're paying attention and invested in the process. Not voting is far more unpatriotic in my opinion. I wouldn't worry so much about what the protesters are saying if you don't agree. They just provide a balance to the people who would stifle others' voices.
  • maybe they choose to live there because they CAN protest. Not all countries have that freedom
  • I'm not, to be honest. I like hippies.
