There was a cartoon adoptation of the movie in 1977 but it was on TV. There is no film about "The Hobbit". It's been talked about and rumored that Peter Jackson might make it.

There is a cartoon version on DVD. My kids were afraid of the "Lord of the Rings" series and my husband found the complete collection in cartoon form including "The Hobbit". I think he found them at Target but I'm not sure. You may be able to get it through a video store. Sometimes they will order a move for you if you ask.

Currently there is a cartoon version of the Hobbit that was made in the 70's (it's not that great). There is plans for The Hobbit to come out in theaters in the next couple of years though. It will be directed by Peter Jackson, but we LOTR fans have to wait untill he directs other movies first (King Kong, and Lovely-Bones)

In addition to the animated version mentioned by the others, there is also a script for a stage version. However, I think that the play write took way too many liberties with the story. She added things that weren't in the original book and left out most of the important events at the end of the story (i.e. the Battle of Laketown and the Battle of the Five Armies). The animated version, if I remember correctly, stayed much truer to the original book.

"The Hobbit" is in the works of being made, however Peter Jackson will not be directing it. Can't remember why. Some snaffoo between him and the production company over the first three.
