How effective is the witness protection program?

One of the very best kept secrets in the Federal Government.

Many people are alive today, because of this program.

U.S Marshal Service handles this program and are sworn to secrecy.

I guess it's pretty effective. The only stories I can recall of any problems, came from those that wanted out. I guess the key is not drawing attention to yourself.

the uk witness protection programme has a 95% success rate the 5% that has not worked has been due to the people within the programme did not listen to the advice given and contacted the world outside without knowledge of the police in charge.

Must be pretty good. I never have found out about one, but I think I know someone who was/is in the program just from how things were explained and kind of worked out.
Can't tell of course, then I'd have to eliminate 175,000 ABers and the AB staff. Messy business.

The program is mostly for bad guys testifying against bad guys. In Michigan Prosecutors legally use threats on witnesses lives as aces up their sleeves to force pleas and plea-bargains. We'll never know how effective it is because the ones that have information leaked about them are all dead!

I was a Witness, but i was never Protected

From what I understand, It has about a 100% fail rate. People ,by nature, can't stay away from their past. It's only a matter of time before some one in the program tries to contact, or go home
