  • My friend had it once, and she got it removed the first time. I live in Christchurch. Maybe you didnt have it bad enough to warrent it being taken out?
  • I had my tonsils removed as a 6 year old I am 49 I still get sore throats, I still get Scarlet Fever with a strep throat. Tonsils should be removed if they are chronically infected all the time which can be seen in the blood count , or if they are an obstruction in the throat. Otherwise they serve an important role in our immune system. This was not realised when I was 6. Adults have a hard time recovering from tonsil surgery, kids walk through it.
  • Hey lou... I think you'll find you have to have it pretty bad before they'll do anything about it. My niece has suffered badly from tonsilitis for several years (talking at least 8yrs) and was repeatedly told she had to have it 5 times in any 12 months for them to remove them. This last year one episode was so bad and the tonsils were so covered in puss and swollen to the point she could hardly breathe that they relented and did something about it. She is now extremely happy!!!! So for you I hope you do go to the doc every time you get tonsilitis just to get it on record. The more proof you have that it is a regular problem the better in the long run.
