  • No. The definition of recession is extremely variable depending on who is making it. There are those who say we are and those who say we aren't. Just depends which criteria for determining a recession is being used.
  • They always do it. No matter how bad things are the government (dem or Rep) will tell you everything is good, "Only 20 million people are out of work, things are great, never been better, it's what we in Government like to call Full Employment!" They did it in the 80's when we had double digit unemployment. They do it and they don't count someone as unemployed if their unemployment benefits run out.
  • Technically speaking, we are not in a recession, because we haven't had 2 consecutive quarters of negative growth. I think that's a very narrow definition and it does not mean the economy is good. It also doesn't take into account specific areas of the country that are in a recession or worse.
