  • Not in my opinion..nor in the designers' opinion either. So many innocents gone forever, along with our innocence of such destruction.I honestly do not think any moral person could justify the dropping of both those bombs. In fact a lot a people have expressed wonder at why these events do not constitute a war crime .
  • There will nver be a definitive answer to this question. Another question is: are all countries justified to use the atomic bomb to achieve their wartime objectives? Or is this the exclusive right of the US? Perhaps the victors are the final deciders of the question. If you use the a-bomb and win, you were justified. If you use the a-bomb and lose, you are a war criminal.
  • Well, yes, That was a war, and it needed an end. The Bomb scared the S*** out of the Japanese and forced them to surrender. Whether we like it or not, we need it. And think if it this way, Hitler was VERY close to having that firepower at his command.
  • Us or them
  • Definitely. The casualties (both American military and Japanese military and civilian) that would have resulted from the planned invasion of Japan would have far exceeded the number of people killed by the atomic bomb. To put the whole casualty expectation in perspective, American troops wounded in Iraq are receiving Purple Hearts manufactured for the expected casualties from the invasion of Japan. This after Korea, Vietnam, the Gulf War and the other minor conflicts of the last 60 years. Do you think the American people of the time would have thought that casualties at that level were preferable to bombing a Japanese city or two with a super weapon?
