Quite a few times. BUT when I do, I ALWAYS look for another persn who is also dining alone. I strike up a conversation.
Once in a while we have coffee and dessert together.
On two occasions the lady and I went out for the rest of the evening.
There are two things in this world I HATE to do:
Cook for myself. Eat by myself.

Yeah, its nice to take yourself out sometimes, my man was at work though and I pampered myself, the baby was there but she can't even eat solid food yet

I have walked past a cafe, and gone in for a sandwich and a drink, but that's different isn't it.
I think I'll book myself a table for one in my favourite restaurant and see what the experience is like.

Yes, but only when my wife and I are apart, like when I'm on a business trip or something. I like being with her, but I also really enjoy being alone at times.

Yes, very often and especially when my wife is not with me. Occasionally when she visits our children overseas and I do not go with her, I would often go out for meals alone. Therefore going out to eat alone is a common enough practice in my country.

Thousands of times- I take a book with me. When I'm out shopping, running errands, doctors appts etc., I'll stop at a sit down restaurant for lunch.

I used to a lot when I lived in the heart of Tempe, Arizona. Most of my favorite restuarants were just blocks away and I walked to them. I loved eating out alone over there, very much so.
But I haven't ate out alone in a couple of years now. But I will again soon, I'm sure.

Yes - especially when travelling, as I often travel alone. I must admit though that often people stare at me, eating alone - and sometimes I think they feel a little sorry for me. But, you do get more attentive service from the waiting staff.

Many, many times. I look around and ask the hostess for a specific table....not in the middle of the room, if possible. I like my back to the wall where I can people watch!!
When travelling and staying in hotels alone, if I go to the bar I sit at the bar and talk to the bartender. Feels safer that way....

Well, sort of. There were a couple of situations. Firstly when I was travelling alone on the train. I had to change trains at a station but there was a long wait in between. I ate alone at the station cafe.
Also, when my eldest son was in hospital for many weeks. My husband had to return to work after being off for the first week but I stayed with our son all day so I ate my evening meals alone in the hospital canteen.
