It can be treated and allieviated. I think the most significant part is your attitude and understanding of depression. Negative thinking and energy directly effect our experiences and eventual happiness or despair. Depression does affect outlook and judgement it's important on days when we feel really, really bad, or suicidal etc to know that we are having a bad day and no decisions should be made because we are altered and not thinking very clearly. When people understand depression and how the brain works - it can help to remove stigma, feeling powerless, hopelessness. In therapy - whatever that means for you, some people are fortunate to find that their words and thoughts can have real power, whether that be extremely harsh and self-defeating, or helpful and empowering. The rest of all that negative stuff said of ourselves and others needs to be eliminated if you want to feel a sense of respect, and joy. My 2 cents.

Death cures all they say, but the rest of us are doomed to suffer. There's some truth to that in talking about depression.

yes, absolutely. just be willing to go with whatever your doctor recommends (counseling, meds, diet changes, etc)

Yes, and it doesn't take pills to do it. Depression is caused by too much dwelling on one's problems and not enough action. Living is about giving, for it matters less who you think you are but what you do with who you are and what you have.
-
yes, from the inside out.

Depression is a disease. It affects every part of a person, and every part has to be treated. There has to be medication for the physical part, and therapy for the emotional/mental part. Exercise is also an important component of recovery. I don't know if it can be cured once and for all, but I know people can get better.
