Why the "YOUTUBE BAN" scandal is general or common in semi-military democracies like terrorist Syria and its intimate friends: North Korea, and Turkey?

    The premise of the question is off but I will answer it like this...

    North Korea is not a semi miltary democracy, it is an dictatorship.
    Turkey is a not a semi miltary democracy, it is a democracy.
    Regarding Syria, your definition may fit here but i would refrain from calling it "terrorist Syria".

    To answer the question finally, youtube was banned in Turkey because of a long standing tensions with Greece - they have quite a history of conflict - that were agitated by youtube video supposedly posted in Greece, insulting the founder of the country and "homosexual turks". There actually is a law in Turkey against insulting turkish culture and/or Mustafa Kemal Ataturk (founder) -- how patriotic.
    Recently, in October 2010 the ban was lifted because basically it is ridiculous and imo makes the country look insecure - i mean who cares what is posted on youtube?

    I dont have a great answer for SYria and or N Korea but I think the ban maybe gone soon in Syria. Not likely for N Korea -- controlling people is easier when they feel isolated and that probably has a lot to do with it -- but there are many other stronger social controls in N Korea beyond banning youtube -- do people even have internet access in N Korea?
