No. It isnt. Doesnt mean I havent though. I think the guilt of lying was a bit less than the guilt of spilling secrets...

Technically, no. According to the law, no. But I know people who've done it, and it's not exactly un-common. Someone I know recently kicked the shit out of an old pervert who tried to abduct his daughter! He said many horrible and disturbing things about this 5 year old kid and what he'd do to her. He kicked the perv to the ground and told him not to move until the police got there. Police got there and arrested the perv, and they actually told Gary (bloke who kicked him to shit) to lie on the police statement and say the bloke had just fallen over. It's bad the police told him to lie, BUT I think it was actually the right thing to do tbh, and I think anyone would go nuts if a perv approached their kid. I know I'd seriously hurt them, lol.

not really.....but hey

Morally? Yes it is wrong to lie to an authority, but it also depends on how serious the lie was. a white lie is nothing serious but lying about the whereabouts of a police suspect or anything similar to that effect is actually considered a crime... it called Obstruction of Justice I believe and is very serious... simply put, don't lie unless the cop asks you something like, "hey do these glasses make my face look fat?"

If you get away with it, then yes, it's fine.

Lieing to anyone is not okay...we all tell little white lies here and there i think.
-
its a federal offence
-
NOPE. You will get caught.

It is never acceptable to lie. But It is an accepted technique to use deception in the investigation of a crime. Rephrase; It's OK if the police lie when they're investigating a crime. So Do NOT talk to the police without having an attorney present. The Miranda says whatever you say may be taken down and may be used against you at your trial. The word 'may' does not mean it probably will happen it means that law enforcement/prosecution is entitled to use it regardless of the context. Do not toy with those people.
-
You bet. But a better deal is don't say anything without an attorney present
-
Only if you are sure that doing so will keep you out of trouble. Some times it is better to be honest, but not always. Don't ever incriminate yourself. That is not your job, it is theirs. Police officers do respond well to respectful citizens and very often will let you go if your crime isn't that big of a deal. In situations like this it is good to be honest I think.
