My 1999 Accord wouldn't shift out of park. So I took it apart and rigged it so that the little shift lock release is always down. Now my brake lights don't work. What is going on?

    Most cars from about this year to present have an interlock function that prevents the car from being shifted into gear, unless the brake pedal is depressed. My guess is that in "rigging something up" you did something to that interlock, which is directly linked to your brakelight switch. Double check that you didn't disconnect any wiring and check all the fuses, you may have just shorted the switch with your "rigging".
