If he/she is really your friend, ask the question. Secrets and rumors between people end friendships. Either ask or develop the patience to know he/she will talk to you when he/she is ready.

Why does it matter? S/he is the same person who you feel is worthy of a friendship regardless of sexual orientation. Let it go, and if the friendship progresses, and as this person gains trust in you, you will find out the important things you need to know about him/her. This person won't gain trust in you if you are running around behind his/her back trying to discover things that aren't your concern.

Does it matter? It's your friend. unless of course your an interested party for dating. Otherwise it shouldn't matter.

My best friend and I have known each other since we were 2 years old. I know he is gay, but he has never told me and I will never ask. I love him just as much no matter what and he will tell me when he is ready to tell me, I dont have a right to know. That is his personal ( I emphasise personal) choice. He will tell you when he wants to.

I actually asked a gay guy this very question (I was doing a paper for speech class), and he had an interesting if subtle response. Basically it is in the way that gay people communicate: "Gay men make eye contact more often than straight men. They have a receptive way of holding their body. Straight men tend to be rigid and stiff. Once you start talking there tends to be a gay way of speaking. Comedian David Cross says "Not all gay men talk this way but only gay men talk this way. It transcends region and race." Gay men have a more expressive, tonal voice. Gay men put a lot more expression in their voice. The main thing is that you almost never hear straight guy talk like that, and if you do hear a guy talk that way and he says he is straight, you don't believe him." If you think about it, gay men communicate very much like women communicate (gay or straight). This may explain why women are attracted so much to gay men. Sorry if your friend is a woman, not much help figuring her out.

I say if the answer he/she gives is going to bother you or change your friendship then just try and let it go. I was best friends with a girl growing up and we were really close and now i'm gay. She has no problem with that and has never even asked if I like females. She knows I do because I dont dress feminin

Does he have hair on his knuckles? Gay people have hair on the knuckles. Oh by the way, those who look at their knuckles to check are gay (Yeah I saw you peek at your hands). ----- Seriously there are no tell tale signs or symptoms of homosexuality. If you want to know then ask. BTW in all seriousness the usual sort who want to know if their friend(s) are gay are those who are gay and are interested in hooking up with their friends. So your question says a lot more about you than you think. Party on

Talk to your friend, and discuss certain things. Believe it or not, I have a very close gay friend and he used this method and it helped them talk more freely about themselves. Like say apple, if he says banana, then you're getting close. If you say Pedal and he replies Pushers, you're really getting close. You know what I mean. You can just throw words around that comes to the top of your mind. It's saying something and not revealing anything, unless you want too. If the other person gets uncomfortable, stop and go do something else. Some may laugh but it works for some. I know I'll get some serious dr's , but if it can help somebody, that's what counts to me.

Listen it does to matter to a certain extent. Yes they are still the same person but dude, you cant be naked in front of them anymore, not if you are the same sex they are attracted to. No offense to anyone that is gay, i have nothing against gays and lesbians, you should be free to love anyone you want.
