Probably my favorite novel of all time is *Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency,* by Douglas Adams. It’s an absolutely *amazing* piece of modern fiction: mystery, comedy, and sci-fi all rolled into one, and no detail—no matter how seemingly unimportant—is insignificant. I’ve read it six or seven times and I still keep finding new stuff! It’s been a long time, but I also remember really enjoying Joseph Heller’s *Picture This.* The book is inspired by a little-known Rembrandt painting entitled “Aristotle Contemplating a Bust of Homer.” Sometimes the point of view is that of Rembrandt himself, sometimes it’s Aristotle, sometimes it’s Homer, sometimes it’s the bust of Homer, sometimes it’s the painting itself. I don’t remember how much bad language was in it—Heller tended to have quite the potty mouth—but it was a fascinating exploration of point of view!

Too many to name. I enjoyed The Great Gatsby, A Clockwork Orange and 1984 to name just some.
