Question

Help answer this question below.

My 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee will not start, crack, or turn over. When the turn key is off the gauges go all the way to the right then back to the left. What could be wrong?

I have a Grand Cherokee. That happens with a very weak battery. The gauges cycle all the way and make a lot of clicking sounds.

alancl1 may have your answer. I'm not aware of the jeep cable per say but it does seem to sort of explain your problem.

As for the gauges bouncing, that to me sounds like a dead battery. Try getting a boost and see if it starts. If it does, get a new battery right away. Clean the terminals and cables at the same time with baking soda and water using a stiff wire brush.

That's the best advice I can offer.

my jeep started doing something simular. its happend twice .. once while i was stopped at a light .. the radio got really loud then made a pop noise .. then all teh gauges started going back and forth .. so i turned the jeep off and it would'nt start for about a minute .. then it started and all was well.. didnt even lose the presets on the radio... then a week week ago it happend again and wouldnt start... it happend when we were shopping.. so i left the car in the parking lot and shopped.. still didnt start. so i turned the key a few times.. gauges jumped.. then i pressed the brake really hard and wiggled the shifter... then it started.. could be complete coincidence. i did notice that my battery terminals are coroded .. i'll try cleaning those.. I did have brake work done recently .. and the shop was less than satisfactory . and i dont plan to go there again.. but maybe they screwed something up.. shortly after my brakes were done my heater blower stopped working .. I did notice after the first power spike thing the heater started blowing for a second then worked for a little bit.. then didn't again... every strange...

any one have any ideas? would this shed any more light on it? I was thinking maybe a voltage meter since it seems the gauges are getting a little power even though everything is off

Maybe an old battery or bad connection.
Try jump starting it and see if that works.
Right now my Jeep does almost the same thing because of a cable that is attached to the brake and shift lever so it can't be started in Drive. The cable is loose and makes the computer think I'm in Drive or something like that. I need to wiggle the shifter and press on the brake a hundred times to get it to start.
