Do you believe Western type funerals costing 10's of thousands of dollars, are necessary to the remaining family, or just a sick way of ripping off people already in pain and grief?

i don't think they're necessary to be as expensive as they are i remember a boy when i was a sophomore, he commit suicide. his mother had no money for his funeral. his friends did carwashes for a long time. it was really sad because i remember some people not wanting to help because he commit suicide too. really bothered me.
