if ur planning on misusing a handgun... its gonna take wayyyy more than a measley 7day period to stop u get it off the street

It prevents heat of the moment crimes, yes, but it does nothing to stop people from accidentally or purposefully shooting themselves or those they love, which accounts for a large number of handgun accidents.

Of course. How many times have you wanted to kill your honey, or your boss, or the woman in front of you at the checkout who is yakking on her cellphone instead of paying and getting out. If you had a gun you might have--but having to wait 7 days cools you off. Also, it gives more time for a criminal or insanity check to be made accurately.
