Over weight is determined by your body mass index (BMI) and not by a dress size. Some designers actually market an 8 as a size 7 so the consumer feels like they are thinner than they are.

Women's sizes just screw me up. That's why if I ever buy anything, I go by S,M,L. Even then I screw up.

in new zealand, size 8 is tiny !! its one of the smallest sizes we have, you would only weigh about 8 stone to be a size 8, our big sizes are 18, 20, 22 upwards...........

Where on earth does this question come from? Everything I found on a search said that the fashion industry defines plus sizes as 12W - 14W - 18 W - +1 - +2 - +3 Size 2 - 4 - 6 - 8 - 10 would be found in Jr or regular, not plus. The W after the number stands for Womens'

Well you do have to take into vanity sizing. I wouldn't say it's plus-size, but it can be over-weight depending on your height. It didn't used to be... but as sizing keep getting bigger..

Damn I must be tipping the scales! And after I worked my ass off this past year to lose 85 pounds!!! My ass is still a plus size in an 11 !!!!! Oh well....I'll get through it somehow!!!! LOL

I haven't heard that one yet.. Americans are getting heavier, so they keep moving the plus-size down at notch.. nothing like a little humiliation. I always took a 'medium' in a sweatshirt. Last week I ordered a medium sweatshirt online and it could fit my slim 10 year old. I wish they would stop changing the sizes on us... of course, most of our clothing is now made in countries where the average person is very thin.

I've been busting my butt for two years to get from a size 16 (post babies) back down to a 10. I am NOT overweight. Whatever jerk said that needs to meet with my heels!
