First off, great question! this is the BEST advice I can give you- If you want to get to know him better communication is the best thing you can do. Just ask him about hobbies, favorite movies.. little stuff, until eventually you will work up to bigger stuff.. like about sex or about "us". If this is a new relationship you might scare him away by asking to quickly about "us". For some reason, men think women are pushy, when all we really want is a little comfort in our relationship... right? If your talking about what he wants.. as in 'in bed'.. honey there's an easy answer for that one ;). If you're a shy gal this might not work for you though... Put on your sexiest voice when you two are getting into it and just ask him what he wants you to do to him... it sounds tacky, but TRUST ME! It gets em goin every time. If he really is as reserved as you think though, this may throw him off and if it does... simply tell him, I just want to know what makes you hot... or something to that effect ;) As far as asking him if "anything is bothering him"... BAD JU JU!!! MEN HATE THIS!!! it makes them feel uncomfortable. just try to sway the mood with a cute joke or something you know makes him smile.
