Since the beginning of time the earth climate has fluctuated, and it will continue to do so until the end of time.

I want to expand my question just a bit. No flames please. I have always believed in caring for the environment. I have always done all the things the global warming people say, because it is the responsible thing to do for the environment. My electric bill is $20.00 a month. Our family has only one car and it only goes 10,000 miles a year. I have a HE washer and a clothesline. I walk the talk. I have thought all along that the science behind global warming is suspect. I have had some science background, but not a degree. I changed majors as I didn't want to commit to a Phd. However, there are some issues that I see global warming proponents carefully staying away from. Like how do we know this isn't part of a normal thousand or ten thousand year weather cycle? Greenland was named Greenland because it was the Viking breadbasket. They farmed Greenland. It is only just now beginning to be arable once again. So how many cars and smoke belching power plants did the Vikings have in order to be able to farm there? They quote weather patterns as being anomolies, but we only have a 130 year data set in the US. I'll wager the data set in other countries isn't much different as thermometers haven't been around that long. That is an eyeblink in terms of the earth's history. It really isn't enough to extrapolate. I know they get some data from ice cores on the poles, but there are a lot of assumptions in that. How do we know those cores are chronological and there aren't stretches of melting in there. It also seems that global warming theory changes to suit the circumstances. First it is going to cause terrible hurricanes every year (as Katrina is roaring through). Then the next year, when no hurricane reaches landfall, it is going to cause fewer hurricanes. Computer models can be made to say anything, depending on the data plugged into them. I suspect they are being manipulated depending on circumstances, so they continue to support global warming. I know there are some scientists who have problems with global warming too. But as grant money doesn't go to scientists who don't toe the line, they keep their mouths shut. And finally there is Al Gore's behavior. Wouldn't a man who truly believed that global warming threatened his children's future, as well as the future of every other child on earth, walk the talk? But he runs up a $30,000 electric bill and jets all over the earth. That makes me think that he is being paid to support the global warming theory, but knows it isn't really true. So that made me wonder who is buying? For some time I questioned whether it was a blackmail technique for other countries to get damages from developed countries. But that didn't exactly seem to fit. After the conversation we've been having on Nuclear power, I'm starting to wonder if that industry isn't pushing this theory to make themselves look safe by comparison, then everyone else jumped on the bandwagon for their own reasons. Thoughts? I guess if this question disappears, that would be pretty good confirmation.

Of course I believe that the Earth is in a state of entropy, along with the entire universe ... everything is changing & staying the same is an impossibility. For billions of years, the Earth has been going back and forth between glacial ice ages and hot humid jungle ages. What is now northern Siberia was once a hot steamy marshland only 40,000 to 50,000 years ago. The last ice age, which is still not quite over, has been slowly receding for thousands of years as the Earth has been warming. We are currently still in a warming stage ... part natural causes, part human causes. But ever since the dawn of mankind and the lesson of how to make fire, humans have been adding to the naturally occurring CO2 ... and ever since the development of coal/steam trains and the industrial revolution, humans have been putting vast amounts of CO2 & other greenhouse gases into the Earth's atmosphere ... and the internal combustion engine has greatly increased the amount of CO2 & other greenhouse gases ... add to that the clearing of large areas of jungle & forest that take in CO2, removing it from the atmosphere ... and it becomes clear to anyone with understanding, that a natural process that should be taking another couple of thousand years has been accelerated by humans so that it will now take less than a century to completely melt the polar ice caps.

We need to look at the big picture. This GW issue is basicly dividing our society. The news network cartels are constantly controlling/manipulating/brainwashing the minds of citizens by bombarding propaganda, left & right, about this issue. They are winning the battle because a higher level mandates them to do so. This higher level is using a very powerful brainwashing tool called "Hegelian Dialetic method". This method was used by Hitler & Stalin to control and manipulate their societies. BTW, I do believe that this GW issue is a big hoax created to (1) control societies, (2) create taxation, and (3) to be used as a money-making machine. Here is a link of the dialetic method for your info. THESIS-ANTITHESIS=SYNTHESIS. There is more but this is it for today. My 2 cents. http://www.calvertonschool.org/waldspurger/pages/hegelian_dialectic.htm

I think it's fake. The world was a big sheet of ice because of it's normal process 10 thousand years ago. What makes it our fault the climate is changing now?

I believe that global warming is a crock, I'm sick of hearing about it. The environment should be protected, and I'm all for recycling and energy efficient products, but I do not believe that there is a problem, and certainly not one of the magnitude that they've inflated it to.

One thing I've been wondering about is something I learned, I believe in my geology class, although it might have been physics. Apparently every 10,000 years or so, the magnetic poles change ends. They know this because of the orientation of iron particles in rock. They point to the magnetic poles just like a compass does. Every 10,000 years or so of rock layers, the orientation of the iron switches direction. Apparently we are long overdue for this switch. Like one morning we could all wake up to find our compasses pointing the other direction. I don't know what it would do to cars with onboard digital compasses. Anyway, I heard a little blip on the news a few years ago that said that switch and the processes leading up to it could cause global warming. I haven't heard another peep since then, so I guess it was one of those scientists who wasn't toeing the line.
