Bit Torrent is different in the way the files are downloaded, you are not specifically downloading "abc.mov" your downloading fragments of the file under "hashd" names, as I understand it. But just as when you download the file "abc.mov" as these fragmented little files to make up th complete "abc.mov" in the end, something has to be able to track it to know which fragmented files correspond to the "abc.mov" So it CAN be TRACKED. And downloading copyrighted materil is still illegal. So keep it LEGIT and keep yourself out of trouble.
