  • Yes, but he won't be very good at his job.
  • All I know is that every salesman I've known has been soulless. Especially car salesmen.
  • All depends on whether your salesman sells a product or service that he really, genuinely believes is beneficial to the buyer. If that is the case, he would no doubt be able to sleep peacefully at night.
  • As long as he truly believes in the product he is selling, he can. Success in sales is directly related to product knowledge and truth in advertising. If you don't know your product, you can't sell it and if you don't believe your product is the best, you won't be very good at selling it.
  • Yes, in fact they are the most successful. A good salesperson is someone who finds out a customers needs and shows the customer how their product fits those needs. Someone who is honest and hardworking is much more appreciated by the customers than someone who is slimy and artificial.
  • For sure. My BIL is a car salesman and a more honest, conscientious kind man will you find who will bend over backwards to get you just the right car. And he will make sure it works well and is clean. But then again, he works on an individual basis and buys cars for each person, like to order, used ones only. But he advertises not at all as he doesn't need to. People come to him word of mouth.
  • Yes but staying that way might be tricky.
  • Yes, but the path is tricky and full of traps.
  • Yes. I sell software to financial institutions and my company uses the term "trusted adviser" when we sell. My job is to find the needs of the company and find out if we can solve their problems or not. We find where we best fit in the solution and don't go beyond that. I have no-bid three large projects this year because we weren't a good fit. My job is to be humble and honest. If I am not and we sell a poorly constructed solution, then it becomes obvious fast and I have to come in and fix it. I don't want to do that, so I am humble and honest when I sell. Honest comes naturally, but the humble part doesn't.
