I would like to learn how to read tarot cards, and I went to the book store, but as I stood there looking at their selection, I realized I don't even know where to start, could you please give me some advice?

There are many decks, and they each have their own characteristics. The Rider-Waite deck is the most popular and is pretty straight-forward. There is probably more written about this deck than the rest anyway. Ref: http://www.aeclectic.net/tarot/riderwaite/

The Rider-Waite deck is the most famous, but if you can, put your hands on the different decks. Ask yourself if one of them seems more attractive to you. If you're drawn to one particular deck, then choose that one. As far as books go, look for a beginners book. It should have interpretations of the cards and some different ways to lay them out and read them. Have fun with it.

You can learn a lot from books and my favorite, and the one I usually go to for reference is Tarot for Yourself by Mary Greer. It's more of a workbook and lets you work with the cards using a variety of spreads but it's very hands on. You do exercises that go much deeper than just "What's in my future?" That's actually how you learn the most - just work with the cards! well, just buy the ones that you are "attracted" to... when you get them, there will be a manual that tells you what each card means. Its not hard... the IMPT thing is that you get ones that you "feel" are right for you. Just take a look and see which ones pop out! Ask the person who works at the store... go to a crystal store or something... they probably know alot about it.
