For the same reasons people choose any belief system: a desire for certainty in an uncertain universe.

Being a witch is different than being Wiccan, because not all Wiccans are witches, and not all witches are Wiccan. Wicca is a religion. One becomes Wiccan (hopefully) because they agree with the philosophy and morals of Wicca. Witchcraft is a craft, or art. It is a practice that can be incorporated into anyone's life. Being a witch is about making change happen. It's about using your own energy (and maybe some tools) to exert your will upon your surroundings. Sounds like a power-trip, but it's just some people's natural conclusion. If one has this energy and this wish, then why not make an effort towards them. It's like a prayer, only it's up to that one person to change something, instead of going through a divinity. The two can mix, as seen in most Wiccans' practices (and Wiccans involve divinity a lot), but they are separate ideas that happen to meet in certain philosophies. Trying to change yourself and your world are usually the motivations.

I am a Witch because I am one of the Goddess' "hidden children." It goes with the territory. Seriously, spellcasting is of comparatively little interest to me. The Goddess is the heart and soul of my life, and she is the reason I am whatever I am.

Usually "witches" are simply female mystics who have incredible use of the creative visualization powers we all have. ; ) Whoa, nelly...it can be quite fun. Wicca is a religion, worshiping the natural things around us. My MD is one.

Well, I'm Wiccan because I believe in the God and the Goddes who are the equal and opposite aspects of the All. I believe that the two are found in all parts of existence and that their energies (and the individual energies of all things) can be attuned to and use to make changes. As a Wiccan, I only attune to those energies and bend them the best I can as long as it harms the least amount of life/energy and, in so doing, accept all positive and negative consequences from those actions threefold (along with any other action I do). I'm a witch because the art of attuning yourself to those energies and bending them is called witchcraft. Anyone can be a witch and bend the energies of existence to their will however they deem worthy - whether it has a positive impact or a negative one. A Wiccan merely uses witchcraft in associate with his/her spiritual beliefs and cannot purposely use magic (the bending of existence's energies) to do harm.
