All I really know for sure I learned from a few books. While it is just side-items on getting published, these tend to be imporant 1- they all seem to prefer if you tuck your work into a big envelope. 2- they tend to shun you if you use a staple. Stick to a paper clip. As for a reputable source, they all have different ideas, and most of them are looking for a buck. If you want a reliable source on both writing, publishing, and so on, do yourself a favor and buy a copy of "On Writing" by Stephen King. It is solid non-fiction, and a great read. Kind of funny, too. Oh! And get an agent. Most publishing houses refuse to publish someone who does not have an agent.
