I have a 2000 ford expedition and was told that the only place to get the code is from the original dealer. I found out later that you can get the code from any ford dealer, they can scan it somehow. You just have to prove that you own the vehicle.

It is under the steering column near the brake. Do not pay the dealer to put it up on the rack, look at it, and charge you!
