  • Not too likely that it's the switch, since it is switching and causing the short to ground that is blowing the fuse. You need to find where the line is shorted (after the switch). Ask yourself... if any other wiring has been performed lately? Did you install a new stereo, or other device in your vehicle? If so.. start looking there for your short. How about trailer wiring? If you have a trailer hookup and haven't made any other wiring changes, I would start in the back where the connections are made to that harness. Look for open / frayed wires or insulation. Loose connections can be troublesome as well. If the fuse blows right away, every time, the culprit is likely easy to see with a little investigation. The problem is under the dash (less likely), or in the trunk / rear area as this is where the brake lights / wiring are located. Your problem definitely should not be under the hood! : ) Good Luck.
