  • it could be many things like an eternity of whiteness, or more space, who knows. we can hypothesize and wax geek with the rest of the astrophysicists of the world but nobody really knows the answer to that. it's mysteriousness is definitely a coolness factor.
  • Actually the answer is quite definite and simple. The only problem is that we can't conceive of it with common sense, because our common sense gets all of its "knowledge" about reality from ordinary life experiences which don't include things like the limits of space/time. The answer is: the question is defective. Space isn't expanding into anything. There's nothing for it to expand "into" -- that's common-sense-type thinking. Its not like there's this vast emptiness which is somehow "out there", waiting for space to expand into it. There's not even 'nothingness' beyond the limits of space. Like I said, any attempt to grasp it by imagination will fail. Physicists learn to relate to it mathematically and give up trying to 'picture' what that means.
