What is your goal in passing the law? Do you think we have too few service men dying these days?
-
I think it would be wrong. The same laws should apply to everyone, no matter what their chosen profession happens to be. +2

I already thought military personnel under 21 could drink on the military base, not off base though, but I didn't realize there was new law saying it was okay. I'm actually okay with this. I don't necessarily agree with the USA drinking age being 21 since 18 is legal adulthood for everything else.

I am against it. When I was in, the law had just changed Federally to 21 for the public, but on base the age was 18. I saw a lot of kids coming back from combat who were not mature enough to handle combat or responsible drinking. We lost more people to drunk driving accidents than we lost in combat. They would get back, and just get sh!tfaced to the point of being out of control. One of our medics filled an IV with vodka and mainlined it. He was dead in about 5 minutes.

its discriminatory to everyone who is not in the military. and think of all the stupid kids who would join the military just so they could drink. just make the age 18 thats the legal age for everything else on the planet

I agree with the first answer.

I think it is acceptable and I probably will get DRed for that, but I dont care because the people that would DR me for this have no idea what it is to actually fight in hand-to hand-combat. I am partial because my brother fights on the front lines in Baghdad and they do get in trouble for posessing alcohol in any capacity. No matter what age you are. And I agree with that, if you're fighting on the front lines in 120 degree weather there is NO room for alcohol!! What I cant understand is if they can fight and die for our country (and they DO), why cant they have a drink? (Believe me, if you knew what some of these men went through, you'd want to buy them a drink too.) I've been to too many funerals for guys that were barely 19 and 20... never ever got to reach that legal age. Military life is just so different and its hard for people to understand this unless you've really lived in a military family or had a military role. The military a whole different world with its own laws and court systems. Its not like being a member of the United States anymore. Its hard to explain and like I said, I'll get DRed but its the truth. Most people dont know it, but it is true. And also, the ones that are stationed in Germany or anywhere overseas drink to their hearts content anyway, no matter what the rules are! Trust me on that one! ;)

What would be the point? Just because they're in the military doesn't make minors any less minor that the average joe blow minor. I do understand being able to have a beer before you go into war, and if you can shoot a gun and kill someone how come you can't have a beer...but the principle fact is, they're still minors. TOo many problems arise with minors drinking...hell even with adults. lol

I do not agree, just because someone is going over to fight doesn't mean they are responsible enough to drink. There is a lot of maturing that can happen from 18 to 21, it doesn't always happen, but there still is a slight difference. Also, kids that drink before 18 can have liver problems, because the liver isn't fully developed.

I'm surprised so many people are against it, they way I see it is simple, If you are old enough to fight in a war and old enough to die for your country, then you are old enough to have a few beers :-)

If they are old enough to fight and die Than they are old enough to have a beer when(if)they make it home!
