  • To help out the poor struggling oil companies.
  • Because the government wants us to have to drive everywhere. They don't even build sidewalks anymore and it is not fun to walk in the street because of all the cars. Public transportion sucks unless you live close to a line. You can't do any shopping unless you have a car. I agree with wilchil that oil drives everything and any policy that makes us use more oil seems to be the goal.
  • That depends on where you live. If you live in a city with apublic transit system you probably don't need one. I live in a small Michigan town. My job is 20 miles from home (my wife's is 30). There is only limited public transportation, none of which will get either of us to work. There are 5 drivers in our house and we have 4 vehicles. Even getting rid of one car would make it difficult. With the high cost of gas I wish I could take public transportation to work but it is not an option.
  • If you want to get anywhere you have to go, you need some type of vehicle. Otherwise, you'll have to depend on the kindness of others (and people aren't all that dependable), or be forced to walk the long way. I know because I can't drive. And it's a curse!
  • Because you can't fly
