  • I would help them. It appalls me that people don't care about other people who need help.
  • It seems like that you are ranting on an event that may have happened. I wouldn't just stand there, I would try to see if the woman is all right. I'm sure that there are medical professionals who can take care of the woman. If I saw a guy lying in the middle of road, I would see if he's all right and get help.
  • I find the lack of action by people in situations like that awful, how would they feel if it was a member of their own family.
  • Sorry to be the downer here--but must people, that is the majority, will just avert their eyes and move on. "I don;t want to get involved." or "I don't know what to do." or "someone else will take care of him' or I'm really late now for an appointment... Three people so far have said that they would help. 3 out 3 is much more than statistics would show.
  • I assume that in these cases, there was more than one person standing around who saw these occurrences? Unfortunately, in the real-world, there's a thing that happens in social situations referred to as a diffusion of responsibility. I don't know if you remember the Kitty Genovese story (a woman in NYC who was raped and murdered outside of her apartment complex where many of her neighbors watched her get stabbed and didn't call the police). People feel that if they don't do something, someone else will (and the more people there are, the more likely this is to occur).

  • Well, I agree with Client10. There is a disproportionate percentage of people here who would help when compared with reality. The reality of the situation(s) is complex. In our urban society, people are more apt to ignore or pass the buck on situations they don't want to get involved in. In rural societies it is usually quite the opposite. One would think that PROFESSIONALS would respond appropriately. Many do, and in fact I would have to say based upon experience that these examples cited are NOT the rule, rather they are the exception. Perhaps that's what makes them seem so horrible, you think? At any rate, since you asked the question: My actions would not be to pass the buck. It would be to TAKE CHARGE. If you have ever taken CPR (and I know you did, BigDaddyBS, we used to work the same job many years ago which required it), then you know that after discovering an injured person you do NOT ask for help: you ORDER it! You give specific directions to specific people and MAKE them respond. You bring order out of chaos this way. You can bet that there would have been a ruckus had I been johnny-on-the-spot. I've p*ssed off my share of commanding officers (and others) along the way in the Navy, so I don't think I'd have any problem with p*ssing off anyone else in order to do what's right. The Chief rules. Doubt it not.
  • It a shame with the way the world and society is now. People's conscious and compassion levels seem to be turned way down. I could never see something like that and just turn away without doing anything at all. I can't turn away from an injured animal let alone a human being. I do understand people being afraid of getting too involved for whatever reason or getting sued somehow, but how hard is it to make a phone call???
  • Thats the whole point Sweetheart.....They weren't thinking.
  • I wont just watch or turn away. I'll do what I can to help and, raise havoc so they get the attention they need.
