50s & 60s rock and roll from my childhood. ... any mention of Gemini or Apollo ... ... The movie, "Occupation G.I. Blues" with Elvis Presely ... the house I lived in until I was 5 can be seen in the movie ... and my dad worked as an Air Force Fire Fighter for Crash & Rescue, on the same military base that Elvis was a tank driver, in Zweibruken, Germany ...

The ice cream truck and its singular melody..the Helms Bakery truck (that carried cream puffs) with its toot of the horn..the milkman who used to pick up empty bottles on our back porch and leave whatever mom had on her list for that delivery..washing machines with hand wringers...drying clothes on the line since there were no dryers...black and white television...Saturday movies that cost 25cents to see...gas at 29 cents a gallon...bread at 15 cents a loaf...no suicide bombers or pre-emptive attacks on countries that hadn't harmed us...civility in government as well as compromise...unlocked doors...no "gangs" or drive-by shootings or crazy Supreme Court Justices...more truth in government...less vilification/demonization of those with whom you might disagree...walking to school without complaint..going to libraries to study! :(

I find those memories everywhere. IN music and old TV shows, in old photos and little things I run into when I'm unpacking another box of our things. Sometimes it's running into an old friend, or they call you on the phone and you speak of people 'back then'. And most of all, what really brings back memories of yore, is smell!!! I'll walk outside on some days and it's like a flood of memories wash over me and I'm transported there:-)
