ANSWERS: 1
  • Whichever party: 1) Advocated paying taxes willingly to the government (Matthew 22:21). 2) Felt that the wealthy had an obligation to provide free food to the poor, even when the poor wanted to eat on a Sunday (Leviticus 23:22; Deuteronomy 23:24-25; Matthew 12:1-2 (the corn was free to pick, the sin was that they were working (picking the corn) on the Sabbath); Luke 18:22). 3) Wanted a system of free nationwide healthcare (goes without saying, a general theme of the Gospels). 4) Felt that religious freedom was more important than allowing the majority religion to persecute all other religions, meaning a support of the separation of Church and State (an extension of Matthew 22:21; also see most of John 4, specifically Jesus' tolerance and praising of the Samaritans). 5) Felt that the death penalty needed to be abolished (one can only assume that one who knew from personal experience that innocents could be put to death by the death penalty would be opposed to the death penalty, also see all his verses saying "do not judge"). 6) Felt that public prayer, including school prayer, shouldn't be allowed; while putting strong protections on private prayer (Matthew 6:5-6). 7) Felt that women deserved to have all the same privileges as men, and should even take an active role in choosing "the better part." (Luke 10:38-42) 8) Threw the best parties with the best wine (John 2) and the most sinful participants (Matthew 9:10). 9) Had a balanced approach to personal self-defense (you can own a weapon but only for show, not to actually hurt anyone) (Luke 22:36; but its just for show as Matthew 26:52 stipulates). I think the answer is pretty obvious which party he would belong to. Now, he would probably recuse himself from actually voting, since he would have entered the U.S. without going through the proper immigration channels, and not being born in the U.S.A. he would also be ineligible to become President. EDIT: Updated with relevant Bible verses to point out how the Bible supports everything I stated. One additional point: 10) Jesus would be a member of the party with the lowest divorce rate (Mark 10:11) (Liberal Blue States have the lowest divorce rates in the U.S.A., and Massachusetts has the lowest in the U.S.A.; Conservative Red States have the highest divorce rates in the U.S.A., Arkansas, Mississippi, and Kentucky with the highest U.S. divorce rates) (http://www.nytimes.com/2004/11/14/weekinreview/14pamb.html) (http://www.boston.com/news/globe/editorial_opinion/oped/articles/2004/10/31/walking_the_walk_on_family_values/)
