Converted 49 chev pickup to 12 volts w/alt. out of 96 lumina van. I connected the orig. gen. "arm" wire to the "batt" post on the alt. 3 wires out of the alt. The red connected to the "batt" wire from the old regulator. The pink to + on coil. Brown?

you will short out and ruin the alternator that way... the fastest ,cheapest,and best way to convert a gm alternator is to take it to an automotive shop that rebuilds starters and alternators.they can internally convert your alternator to a one wire system. when completed run the one wire from the alternator to the 'hot' post of the starter along w/ the battery 'hot'wire. this results in less wiring and a more professional looking installation.
