It has a university, and I'm pretty sure that's where Charlotte Wyatt's from. So all in all, not much really! EDIT: Yoho; Charlotte is a little girl who was born in Portsmouth prematurely (in her 26th week) on the 21st October 2003. She had to be resusitated and ventilated 3 times, at which point the hospital gained a 'do not resusitate order' against Charlotte's parents wishes. They decided that because they believed Charlotte was in pain and wouldn't live past infancy, Charlotte shouldn't be resusitated if she needed to be a fourth time. Her parent's are devout Christians who believe God should decide when their daughter should die. Just over a year later, Charlotte began to make small improvements, and the DNR order was lifted. At the beginning of 2006, the DNR order was again placed over Charlotte. However, Charlotte has now been permitted to be discharged from hospital, but Portsmouth Social Services have decided her parents are unable to care for her. This link is realy good at explaining: http://society.guardian.co.uk/health/story/0,,1596729,00.html Charlotte's mother left darren, her father, taking their other 3 children with her, and lives in a 2 bedroom council house, whilst her father took an overdose and is unemployed. As the authorities are unable to find a foster home for her, Charlotte remains in hospital.

I know I was stuck in a traffic jam just outside it for nearly two hours in the rain on Saturday because of the sodding Great South Run that I forgot about when I decided it would be nice to take my father to visit the Mary Rose. I am rather fond of Portsmouth Historic Dockyards and the ships there (I'm working on some poems about Lord Nelson and his missus at the moment as it happens) The HMS Victory is quite good fun to have a nose around, although the Mary Rose is a bit over-rated, big lump of wood-that-could-be-anything that it is. HMS Warrior is rather impressive. There are some rather odd items in the gift shop there. You can get a ferry from Portsmouth Harbour to the Isle of Wight. They have some nice pubs and I had a rather lovely vegetable lasagne and chips and salad in the pub just opposite the Tourist information this weekend. You can get from Portsmouth to London on the train for £1 if you go on the Megatrain website to book tickets. Its a half-decent shopping centre with some interesting clothes shops dotted about, although I haven't gone into it in depth as it somehow is never quite as exciting as Brighton (sorry) There's a production of Cat On A Hot Tin Roof there at the end of Nevember which I'm considering going to see. There are two cathedrals- I think.

I know nothing about Portsmouth in the soouth of Hampshire, UK. Would you settle for what I know about Portsmouth, New Hampshire?

Its on an Island and is the most densley populated area outside of London, I think im right in saying its the 3rd most densley populated area of Europe. There is a strip of subsiding land that runs through Portsmouth called the 'great morass' and it causes subsidance with a lot of the buildings here! Has a population of roughly 189,000 about 96% white 4% asian inhabitants.

Seaport on the South coast . Large maritime history museum, Home of the Mary Rose which was the flag ship of Henry Vlll. It was raised in the harbour in the early 80s I think after being on the seabed for 450 years (about) Very historic city has good educational and sporting facilities. Without looking it up not a lot more off the top of my head . I did visit it to see the Mary Rose

They have a football team nicknamed "Pompey", that have had an excellent start this season, currently 6th in the Premiership, and thrashed us 4-0 earlier on. However, we have a rematch Tues 30th, not that you care since you're a Blues fan. There is also a significant port that has a very rich history, and I believe I may be going there to board a cruise ship later this year, though I could be wrong in that. Also, Portsmouth is the only city in England with the letters P,O,R,T,S, and M that appear in that order.

I know I had a black and white cat from Portsmouth that we aptly named Pompey.

I go through Portsmouth about once a year (or two) when we go to Bournemouth. I know that you live in Portsmouth!

It is where I would start getting wet if I went due south. Victory, Mary Rose, Warrior. Main Navy base, generally known as Pompey. That's it
