    My half-aunt was a diagnosed schizophrenic who spent years in and out of hospitals. I met her a few times, so yes, I have known someone who was truly insane. She died from complications of anorexia nervosa - she refused to eat.

    I know someone who has bouts of insanity. When on medication they aren't too bad and can live normally. But other times, they are not sane.
