  • You might have a bad sensor or the sensor needs to be reset. The location of the sensor itself could be causing it to malfunction.
  • When was the last time you checked the oil?
  • I added a quart of oil tonight. Has oil changed a month ago and I drive 2 miles to work and 2 miles home. Hardly put any miles on my car. I live in Milwaukee.
  • My boyfriend is an auto mechanic. He said it could be a number of things. But he also suggested you take it to a mechanic ASAP and have them run diagnostic, to determine the problem, otherwise they have no way of knowing why the check engine light is on, and it will stay on till whatever the problem is, or the car dies. Is it under any kind of warrantee?
  • Not very familiar with American cars but it may be a 'service due' warning light. i.e time for a oil change & tune up.
  • As long as the "check engine" light is on, the car's computer will show an error code. Most auto parts stores will hook a code reader to your car for free to help determine which code is showing. If you are near an Autozone, they will check for free every time. Edit: Not sure what you thought you might get for an answer to this question. There are about 60 error codes that can cause the engine light to come on, and without hooking the car to a code reader, NOBODY can tell you which one it is. At least I told you where you could get this checked at no cost. That's the beauty of modern cars, all you have to do is plug into them and THEY will tell YOU what's wrong, no need for guesswork.
  • The good part is, the engine light has a memory so it can be detected after the fact, however it is very unusual for the light to go out all by itself..Meant to ask you, if the oil gauge dispayed the fact it needed oil, prior to this. I will talk to my b/f later on and see what he thinkgs. Good luck
