  • I studied it a bit a long time ago when I was in shape. Why?
  • Never any formal classes, but I learned from a guy that was a black belt in a few arts (including Aikido). He needed someone to beat on as a human punching bag. So I let him use me for practice and learned a lot.
  • I never had but I really want to! I've been practicing Capoeira for over 14 years. There is a Aikido dojo in my city and I'm going to go in there as soon as I manage to light my working hours! Did you like it?
  • No I havent but after reading the answers and your comments I may look into it.
  • Yes. I trained up to the black belt test ... passed the test and have my black belt officially, but the instructor moved, and I have never actually taken any classes for Aikido black belts.
  • I took some a few years ago when I was interested in supplementing the karate that was my main interest. I found the emphasis on irimi, entering, very valuable, and learnt to control falling, rolling out, and breakfalls very much better as a result of this training. I was most impressed by a story told me by a student of Kyokoshinkai who had saved the money and visited Japan to train there. When he came back I asked him what was the most impressive thing that he had seen while he was in Japan. He was a big strong high-kicking, tough karateka, and he said he had been at a display, and a little old man, an aikidoka, had simply absorbed, deflected, and reflected everything that the karateka could inflict on him, and was unbeatable. I would have studied more, but there isn't even a shodan graded aikido instructor in my neighbourhood, so there was a limit to what I could learn.
