  • It sounds like the hard drive is failing. That whenever the unit goes to read more music and buffer it, the drive isn't responding quickly enough. If it is under warranty, call applecare or visit an apple store. If it is not under warranty, take it to an applestore anyway and see if they can help you at the genius bar anyway. You could also try restoring the iPod back to factory settings in iTunes. Note that doing so will erase all music on the iPod.
