Let your instincts be your guide. Trust your instinct. If you honestly get the sense this is happening, there's a good chance you're right. So respond (if you're interested) by being nice and friendly. If you want to follow up with asking for a date, do so. This is probagly a good test. If she isn't interested she will either back off on the conversation or decline the invitation.
