  • I have in the past, if I needed a particular book that my library did not stock. It was great!
  • Yeah, pretty much every book I read comes from a different library. My library never seems to have any of the books I read.
  • I'm lucky that I use a pretty large library, so they've often got what I want. Only issue is maybe a waiting line to get it, so I just get on the list and wait it out. ---- For ILL, I found I could get a lot of research done that way with old newspapers not yet digitized but available on microfilm. Sure enough, they lend them to libraries! So, unlike regular ILL that costs nothing, these involve a small fee to the lending institution but it's nominal. And for that, I can search through pages of early and mid 1800 newspapers where my ancestors used to live. The library has a large Heritage Center (genealogy and family history area, holdings and volunteers) so they've got microfilm and microfiche readers available. Gotta love it. :) (In fact, might be time to go down that road again. It's been awhile)
  • Another way to use ILL - besides requesting books, microfilms, etc from other libraries? Widen the field of the kinds of repositories. That is, sometimes Arhives or Museums will also loan materials - to a public library. May bring just the thing you need into your hands - without need to travel hundreds or thousands of miles for access! :)
  • I used to use it all the time. Most books weren't on our library and I had to get them brought in. Some books were just for reading, some were for researching.
  • I used to use it all the time, especially to read books in other languages. Now that I have moved to a really small town, they don't even have that service. I would like to ask if they would implement it here.
  • Other languages, reference material, material that my library doesn't have.... some rare books. Usually inter library comes through local universities, at least in my case.
  • Books I've heard about & can't get. I recently heard about Arthur Conan Doyle's highly regarded 6 vol history of WW1, so I'm checking out Vol 1. The adult books of John D Fitzgerald who wrote the kid's series of Great Brain books. By The Seat of My Pants by Dean Smith-early aviator. The Last Known Address by Joseph Harrington-rare 1st book in his Lt. Kerrigan mysteries.
