Because they're trying to get as much money from you as possible while selling a vehicle.

They like to wear you out so eventually you'll agree to sign anything just to get the heck out of there!!!

It's because of the negotiating involved. Since vehicles are so expensive there tends to be a huge markup and there's more room to add extra costs. Even after you negotiate the price of the car they try to add all sorts of extras on the price. Then you have to play hardball and tell them you aren't paying for freight, rustproofing, fabric protection etc. I wouldn't say that I'm prejudice towards car salesmen but you can only trust one person when it comes to spending lots of your money.

I don't think there is anyway to make that large of a purchase without it being a monumental task.

so they can sqeeeeeze all the money out of you that they can. seriously, check out the trading post if you have that in america. a ford ute, kinda old fasioned but still works and looks great [and you'll never miss it in the parking lot] for $4 500 bargin!! ;) haha
