When setting a table that is not formal and just using a knife, fork and spoon, what side of the plate do the utensils go on?

Like you said its informal, so you can put them wherever, you could even just pile up the required amount of cutlery in the middle of the table next to a serving dish, if someone needs a fork, they will find it

Standard US table setting - knife and spoon on the right, fork on the left. Often, it's accepted to group all the silverware together if you're wrapping or tucking into a napkin.
