  • Everyone is underpaid, apart from a few CEOs and bankers.
  • That would depend entirely upon where you are. The pay scale for teachers varies widely from state to state. In the states with big powerhouse unions, like Michigan, Pennsylvania and New York, teachers make a good living wage, although probably not commensurate with the level of education that they are required to have. In some states, teachers are still required to have a Master's, or National Teaching Certification and strongly encouraged to have a Rank One or Phd. And yet starting salaries are so low they can barely pay rent and eat Ramen noodles and they are expected to pay for continuing education and materials for their classroom out of that. Ten years ago, with a degree and teacher certification, I started out taking h$800 a month and was required to pay for $1500 worth of grad school out of that. My classroom didn't even have textbooks, and I was buying magazine to teach reading with, or my students wouldn't have had anything to study.
  • I feel underpaid. I obviously don't teach for the money, though.
  • very underpaid. almost every teacher i know has at least 2 jobs just to pay the bills.
  • Underpaid a nd underappreciated
  • Some are overpaid. Some are underpaid.
  • Some teachers are underpaid but in some states, they are state employees and have really great benefits. (Insurance, retirement, medical, retirement, etc.,) That's been changing I've heard.
  • Underpaid, or at least how the media portrays it. Anyway, a good education for our youth is something very important. It shapes EVERYONE for the future.
